Black Is the Color of My Voice

About

Apphia Campbell's play, inspired by the life of Nina Simone, follows a celebrated singer and civil-rights activist seeking redemption after the sudden death of her father. Looking back, she traces her path from piano prodigy bound for the church to jazz vocalist at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement, with many of Simone's best-known songs performed live.
