Cloud 9

The play opens in Victorian Africa, where colonial patriarch Clive rules a household of people straining to be what's expected of them. The same family then resurfaces a century later, barely older and loose in 1970s London, as empire lingers and liberation calls. Dominic Cooke revives Caryl Churchill's gloriously audacious satire of gender, sex and power, with Charlotte Ritchie (Ghosts), Sam Troughton and Tom Mothersdale in a cast that gleefully swaps roles.
